Santa Rosa, CA (July 2015) – The Russian River Valley Winegrowers (RRVW) and Bacigalupi Vineyards announced the recipient of the 2015 Russian River Valley Winegrowers & Charles Bacigalupi Scholarship as Lori Bisordi, of Santa Rosa, CA.
Ms. Bisordi is a fifth generation Sonoma County family farmer and a 2012 graduate of Santa Rosa High School. She currently attends the Santa Rosa Junior College with plans to transfer to CSU, Fresno to continue her viticulture education. She plans a career in vineyard management as well as taking an active role in farming her family’s Russian River Valley vineyards.
The RRVW/Bacigalupi scholarship was founded in 2014 in honor of Charles Bacigalupi and will be offered annually to a student concentrating in the field of viticulture or viticulture business. The recipient of the scholarship will demonstrate the qualities that made Charles Bacigalupi an influential part of the grape growing and wine industry: a dedication to agriculture, a passion for grape growing and a commitment to community.
The scholarship will provide a one-time award of at least $1,000 to pay for tuition, books, fees or other expenses to support the student’s career advancement and educational accomplishment. The Bacigalupi family and RRVW will contribute $500 each for the $1000 scholarship. Additionally, members of RRVW may also contribute, and did so this year bringing the total scholarship award for 2015 to $3000.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue to do our part in supporting our local students and help future generations achieve their dreams of carrying on family businesses,” said RRVW Manager, Shannon Wesley. “Viticulture, and agriculture in general, is such an integral part of our County, and we need to support future generations to ensure the wine and grape growing industry continues to be strong and sustainable.”
The RRVW/Bacigalupi Scholarship is administered by the Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County, which awarded a total of $130,000 in scholarships to top agriculture students in Sonoma & Marin counties.
