2018 Fall Newsletter

With the fall season approaching it is the perfect time to release our first-ever bottling of Port. Made from 100% Zinfandel grapes and fortified with a local Brandy this Port has been waiting patiently to make its debut!

The name “Diavoletti” translates from Italian to mean “little devils.” This expression aptly describes the three boys and sons of both Katey and Nicole Bacigalupi. Katey’s oldest, Aiden is 3 and 1/2 years old. He enjoys playing with his French bulldog named Ace, reading, and swimming. Katey’s youngest son, Owen is just 8 months, he is enjoying trying all kinds of new foods and has just mastered sitting up all on his own.
Nicole’s only son Lucca is also 3 years old, he is a sweet but rambunctious boy thatloves Spiderman, dogs and his mom!

2016 Diavoletti
Russian River Valley

Winemaker Notes
2016 was an idyllic harvest. We had much more rainfall here in Sonoma County than we had in the previous vintages, which led to a great growing season and a nice crop. Flavors were still high and crops were higher than last year but not too heavy.

Production Notes
Meet our newest wine! This is our first vintage of Diavoletti, a port-style wine made from Zinfandel. These grapes were picked at a normal sugar and acidity level, and then at 8 brix, Brandy distilled from grapes was added to arrest the fermentation and kill the yeast. The wine then went to used French oak barrels, where it stayed for 22 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes
Beautiful red currant, blackberry and deep black cherry notes abound in the aromas. The palate is warm, fruity and inviting. This wine is misleadingly delicious and perfectly balanced. A wine to drink now or let age for a decade or two.

Food pairing suggestions
Cheeses are an excellent pairings for Port; A variety of hard cheeses including Manchego or Gouda as well as  Stilton. We also suggest cherry pie or chocolate ganache truffles. Ruby Ports are also great in reductions over steak or poached pears.
