A look at the 2023 growing season

Ashley at the winery.2023 has been a spectacular vintage so far. We had a huge amount of much needed rain in the winter and spring. These heavy rains and cooler temperatures pushed budbreak and bloom out by a few weeks in the spring. We also saw cooler temperatures and plenty of foggy mornings through mid to late June, which slowed down the pace of the season overall. Temperatures have warmed up quite a bit in the last month.

The yield in our vineyards is larger than 2022 (which was a VERY small crop due to multiple dry winters in a row) but because the fruit set is determined in the plant in the previous season, our crop is still slightly under average. On a positive note, we expect the crop to be huge in 2024 after the 2023 rains. Overall our harvest is looking to be at least two weeks behind the past few vintages, which will give plenty of time for a nice flavor development. I am very excited about the quality this vintage and I am thinking it will be a great harvest!
