Introducing the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc

It all starts with inspiration—an idea that sparks a journey. This journey evolves into a plan with a timeline, leading to decisive action. Introducing a new wine, especially a new varietal, to our collection requires meticulous planning. In some cases, it can take three to five years for a new wine to come to fruition.

When the opportunity to craft a Sauvignon Blanc presented itself, we knew it was one we couldn’t miss. The vineyard, hidden beside the historic Storey Creek, is truly magical. This secret spot, with its heritage vines planted in the early 1970s, yields a modest but exceptional harvest.

2023 VINTAGE: WET WINTER, UNSEASONABLY COOL SUMMER
Our Northern Russian River AVA properties got a much-needed soaking through early summer. Then, while the rest of the country sweltered in triple-digit heat, our temperatures remained relatively cool, leading to a very late start to harvest season and high crop yields. Luckily, temperatures climbed into the 90’s just before picking. The extended hang time produced high-quality grapes that resulted in this spectacular vintage!

PRODUCTION NOTES: The grapes were destemmed and put into bins with layers of dry ice. They were cold soaked for 72 hours, then we pressed the juice off the skins directly into barrels. The wine remained on primary lees in 25% new French oak and 75% used French oak for 10 months.

TASTING NOTES: Pale yellow with a slight green hue, this spectacular wine has aromas of pie crust, gooseberry, passion fruit, jasmine, kiwi, and rangpur lime. The complex palate has bright citrus notes, more tropical notes, and a beautiful round texture. The finish has a great lingering acidity.
